Juniper Wins Second Place In Trailing
And Locating at the 2006 JRTCA National Trial!
When we arrived at Trailing and
Locating at the National Trial, there was quite a line. So, we stood
and watched the other terriers doing the course. The first terrier
we watched belonged to a very nice woman named Karen. He did the
course in what looked like record time! The next dog, named "Teddy"
belonged to a great guy from Ireland, named Eddie and his very nice
wife. Eddie had been getting some grief from a man named Joe, who
was exclaiming that Guinness Beer is "sludge" and in Ireland,
it's even grosser than here in the U.S. He said "you know that
stuff you use on your driveway? That's what Guiness is like."
I had to take exception to that little tidbit of information, which
made Eddie give me a high-five. My father the Irishman is very fond
of Guiness and has been known to enjoy the real stuff, straight
from Ireland transported via passenger airliner. But, I digress...
Teddy dubbed around a little bit,
but eventually made his way over to the area where the "quarry"
was located. Three more terriers took their turns before it was
time for Juni to try her luck.
Scot brought her over to the starting
point, and after several false starts, she followed the scent straight
to the "quarry" in the woods. From my vantage point, where
I stood silently as I was instructed to do so as not to distract
Juniper, I heard uproarious laughter in the trees where the quarry
was located, invisible to all of us who were standing observing,
but away from the course. As it turns out, the judge who was located
in the woods at the quarry had exclaimed to Scot "SHE'S GOT
MY FOX!" while doubling over with laughter because she'd latched
onto the false fox that was sitting in a wire crate, and was attempting
to pull it out of the woods. That left Scot to pry her mouth off
the stuffed fox, while also laughing at Juni's tenacity.
Scot walked across the field, back
toward me with Juniper, who looked like she was actually smiling
over the whole thing, as only a Jack Russell Terrier can appear.
She took 2nd place this year! We're
very proud of her. She was in a class of 21 terriers, who were male
and female, but all between the sizes of 10 to 12.5 in height. She
was one of only THREE terriers in her who actually finished the
course in contention for a ribbon!

RESCUE IS BUSY! PLEASE HELP!
Maine Russell Rescue is in serious need of foster homes. We've lost our other Maine rescuer as she's moved to Texas, and we now handle not just Maine, but New Hampshire and Vermont as well! Tammie Davis of Massachusetts does what she can to help cover New Hampshire and Vermont, but she also covers Rhode Island.
PLEASE... if you could just help us with one dog a year, or one dog every two years, it would be a good deed that is truly rewarding!! Imagine saving a Jack Russell who might otherwise be put to death because of shelter overcrowding. We're more than willing to help by providing an exercise pen, crate, and I'm even working on getting a loaner kennel if I can just find even ONE foster home to help me out! Please consider helping Russell Rescue?
