The Jack Russell Terrier is NOT the breed for everyone!

The dogs you see on the popular sit-com, "Frasier," the kid's show "Wishbone" and in movies and commercials are all ACTORS. In order to get those dogs to behave so well for the camera, their handlers admit to investing a lot of time in training and exercise. If you're interested in adding a Jack Russell Terrier to your family, please visit the JRTCA website, and in particular, please read The Bad Dog Talk and complete the Online Profiler.

I'm sorry to say that even if you don't have an appropriate home for a Jack Russell, you can find breeders who will sell you a dog simply because they either don't know any better, or are only breeding dogs to make a profit or for "fun." This is how we end up seeing so many Jack Russells in Russell Rescue. Please save yourself some heartache down the road and take the links I've provided above seriously. No one WANTS to give up their dog, but it happens all too frequently because people don't understand and can't fulfill the unique needs of a Jack Russell Terrier.

The dogs you'll find in our Available Terriers section are not really "Bad Dogs." They're normal Jack Russells who by no fault of their own ended up given up most commonly because families weren't prepared for the demands of owning a Jack Russell.

If you have children under the age of 6, cats or other small animals in the house, you may want to consider another breed of dog.

All dogs in Maine Russell Rescue are neutered/spayed and up to date on shots before they are adopted.
